The comics below were created in Helsinki Pride Community’s workshop in 2024. Together with Pride is a peer supportive community for lgbtiq+ people that are seeking an asylum in Finland or with refugee background. The comic workshop participants came from Algeria, Central African Republic, India, Iran, Kenya, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Tanzania, Uganda and USA.

Alla olevat sarjakuvat syntyivät Helsinki Pride -yhteisön työpajassa. Together with Pride on vertaisryhmätoimintaa pakolaistaustaisille sukupuoli- ja seksuaalivähemmistöille. Sarjakuvien piirtäjät olivat kotoisin Algeriasta, Intiasta, Iranista, Keniasta, Keski-Afrikan tasavallasta, Nigeriasta, Perusta, Puolasta, Tansaniasta, Ugandasta ja Yhdysvalloista.

Algeriasta Suomeen

1.Olit Algeriassa, kun sait tietää, että sinut aiotaan tappaa. Olet yksi heistä, koska ajatuksesi ovat huonot. Mietit, mihin voisit paeta. Menit maaseudulle ja sitten matkustit Espanjaan.

2. Saavuin Espanjaan. Olin väsynyt ja sairas. Mietin, miten pääsen Suomeen. Tiesin, että Suomi olisi minulle oikea maa ja että viihtyisin siellä.

3. Matkustin Espanjasta Ranskaan, Ranskasta Saksaan, Saksasta Tanskaan, Tanskasta Ruotsiin, Ruotsista Suomeen. Matkustin paljon.

4. Kun saavuin Suomeen, olin yhtä aikaa onnellinen ja surullinen. Olin onnellinen päästyäni maahan, josta olin unelmoinut ja jossa minulla oli ihmisoikeudet. Samalla olin surullinen, sillä olin menettänyt koko elämäni. Se oli korkea hinta. Menin poliisiasemalle ja anoin turvapaikkaa.

From Algeria to Finland

1. You were in Algeria when you found out that some people were going to kill you. You are one of them because your thoughts are bad. You wondered where you could run away to. You went to the countryside and then traveled to Spain.

2. I arrived in Spain. I was tired and sick. I was wondering how to get to Finland. I knew Finland would be the right country for me and that I would enjoy myself there.

3. I traveled from Spain to France, from France to Germany, from Germany to Denmark, from Denmark to Sweden, from Sweden to Finland. I traveled a lot.

4. When I arrived in Finland, I was happy and sad at the same time. I was happy to have arrived in the country I had dreamed of and where I had human rights. At the same time I was sad because I had lost my life. The price I paid was high. I went to the police station and applied for asylum.
